The fascinating property of liquid crystals is their ability to form various higher-order structures with outstanding photonic functions, by applying varying external electric field and temperature.This lecture focuses on the world of attractive liquid crystals with great potential.
This lecture is divided into three chapters.Chapter 1 explains the definition and properties of liquid crystals and how the self-organized structures appear in liquid crystals.Chapter 2 introduces the optical properties and applications of the cholesteric liquid crystal phase, which possesses one-demensional helical periodic order.Chapter 3 shows how new order and function emerge when liquid crystals are subject to external stimuli.
