Application of Magnetic Materials In Industry

This lecture deals with several applications of magnetic materials in the information industry, the physical phenomenon associated with spin electronics, and future magnetic devices.
As future magnetic devices, this lecture gives an introduction into the Magnetic Random Access Memory, the race-track memory, the microwave device, and the magnetic logic gate.
The most prominent is the magnetic logic gate. If it is realized, we can create computers in which all major operations are performed by magnetic materials.
Magnetic computers are highly reliable since they are robust in extreme environment such as in space or near nuclear reactors.
In recent years when people are apprehensive of solar flares and coronal mass ejections that can damage various electronic devices, expectations are running high for the realization of magnetic computers.

This is the last program of magnetic materials series delivered by Professor Nakatani who successfully demonstrated that the magnetic logic gate that utilizes the exchange interaction between magnetic nanodots is able to perform the logical NAND and NOR operations.
